Linear optimisation inside a space-sustainability model

During the i2Planet programme at CERN, we didn't stop at qualitative reasoning — we built a constrained optimisation model. Objective: maximise system value while reducing satellite load.
- Minimum infrastructure floors
- Anti-militarisation caps
- Orbital congestion limits
- Proportions that must sum to 1
A hierarchy-based weighting method assigned relative importance to satellite categories, and the optimised distribution beat purely intuitive allocation.
This is what applied systems modelling looks like: not just code, not just math, but structured decision-making under real-world constraints.
